Itinerary

  1. Chef Dat and student drivers will come to pick you up from your hotel by motorbike scooter. You hold on behind them as they weave through a sea of fellow riders. Scooters – ubiquitous in Vietnam – are by far the best way to get around, especially on our model, made famous by actress Audrey Hepburn in the 1953 film Roman Holiday. We head away from the busy streets into quieter local neighbourhoods, well off the beaten track, where a low roadside table under an awning is staffed by smiling ladies. First come banh can– soft and fluffy rice flour mini pancakes, carefully cooked in small terracotta pans before being topped with a quail egg or served with toppings of minced pork ball, squid or shrimp. The little domes are ridiculously moreish, a delicious sponge for the kaleidoscope of flavours and textures after being dunked in a bowl containing nuoc mam pha, the heady, pungent fish sauce made from fermented anchovies, mixed with your choice of fried spring onion. Then there’s banh xeo, a crisp pancake – again made from rice flour, but golden with turmeric powder – and filled with bean sprouts, scallions and local squid. You wrap them in your choice of greens and dunk them in the same sauce you made earlier. Next is Fresh rice paper rolls, pick up different herbs and pickled carrot, white radish together with BBQ minced pork wrapped around bamboo stick. Get all of this on a soft rice-paper then make a roll for yourself, dip into a special sauce made from sticky rice, minced pork, fish sauce...and enjoy. Another try would be the famous dish for Nha Trang is Bun Ca (noodle soup with tuna). That is a well combined of onion, tomato, with tuna will give a delicious broth served with different sliced herbs, season to have 4 different flavors of sweet, sour, salty and spicy. The highlight of the street food tour is a dessert of Che Chuoi Nuong, that is a banana wrapped in sticky rice and banana leaf outside then grilled on a low char-coal fire till it gets crispy. Served in a plate topping with sweet coconut milk, sprinkle with some ground peanut. Wow, it is so Yummy! let try it out! (30 min) Admission included
