Itinerary
- Main square of the city. We will talk about the life of one of the most famous women in A Coruña: María Pita (20 min)
- It was the center of social and political life, housing the Quartermaster's House, the Consistory and the Artillery Warehouse. In the center of the square stands out the Fountain of Desire, cast in the Dungem workshops of Paris in 1870. It is crowned by a sculpture of a woman carved in bronze that represents desire, and that bears in its right hand a lamppost. The fountain is framed by the planters and ash trees that surround it forming a kind of roof that covers the square. All this makes it one of the most beautiful squares in the city. (20 min)
- Romanesque-ogival style church, built between the 12th and 14th centuries. It was located outside the old city walls, hence its name. Declared a Heritage Site of Cultural Interest since 1931. (20 min)
- The garden is one of the most unique green spaces in the city, in the Old City. It is a "hortus conclusus" created around the tomb of General Sir John Moore, hero of the Battle of Elviña against the French and died in 1809. (20 min)
- After the Tower of Hercules, the other great symbol of A Coruña are the Galleries of the Navy, whose unique construction is why the city is recognized as "The Crystal City". (10 min)
- The Plaza del Humor is dedicated to figures of humor. The current design of the square is by Siro López (Galician writer and cartoonist) and was made in the early 90s. It covers the area of the old Plaza de los Huevos, known by its name because different products were sold there, including eggs. (10 min)
- Traditional supply market, located opposite the Plaza del Humor. The market of San Agustín, with its spectacular parabolic roof, became a symbol of the modernity of A Coruña in the 1930s. It is one of the boldest, most emblematic and consistent buildings with its destiny of the first half of the twentieth century. (20 min)
