A Finntastic Walking Tour in Helsinki

Join our Finntastic walking tour to learn about the Finnish culture, food, history, and way of life in a fun and also informative way! Please go through the itinerary, duration, notes before booking. Notes: 1- Tour duration is 2-2,5 hours, please only book if you can stay until the end. 2- NOT SUITABLE for: baby strollers, wheelchair, those with difficulties in walking and hearing (You must have ability to take steps and walk 4km). We can’t slow down the tour for individual participants. 3- Pets are not allowed 4- Please register a valid phone number with WhatsApp 5- Group size: 5-30 people, and the guide has a voice amplifier 6- We run the tour shine or rain, please check the weather forecast and dress accordingly 7- We don´t accept refund requests due to no-show (any reasons such as rain, snow, wind, flight/cruise/ferry cancellation or delay, going to a wrong meeting point)

Itinerary

1. Senate square (Senaatintori in Finnish) is our meeting point, and it is probably the main tourist attraction, where the history of modern Helsinki begins. Here we will discover the three beautiful buildings around us! (20 min)
2. Helsinki Cathedral or the White cathedral is the most famous landmark in the city that you have probably seen pictures of. If the church is open, we can go inside and learn about the religious mindset in Finland. If we are lucky, we can also enjoy some music inside the church! (we don’t go inside the church in the summers because of its 10€ entry fee. It´s closed on Sundays, most Saturdays, and in public holidays) (15 min)
3. "Torille" is a famous Finnish phrase, which means "to the market" ! Let´s visit the market square to find out what that means! What Finns usually eat or drink, and what can you buy from Helsinki to take home with you? (15 min)
4. We will give you a complete guide to a Finnish sauna and give you some recommendations on the best saunas in the town. Let’s learn why Finns are so crazy about sauna?! Allas sauna is located right next to the Gulf of Finland, so here we’ll also get a nice sea view and talk about Suomenlinna fortree island and how you can visit it after the tour. That is highly recommended place to visit as it is a UNESCO heritage site. (10 min)
5. Why do we need two Cathedrals in Helsinki? This one looks different than Helsinki Cathedral, let us find out the reason! We will visit this beautiful cathedral from distance, when we visit the market square.
6. Probably the most famous and the most iconic statue in Helsinki! (10 min)
7. Locally known as Helsinki’s champs de elysee, is home to Kappeli restaurant and Espa music stage. In the middle, stands Runeberg's statue, the national poet of Finland. Here, we will also learn some fun facts about Finland. (15 min)
8. The first cafe bar in Helsinki, and probably the reason why Finns are so much in love with coffee and coffee break! (5 min)
9. Aleksi is of the main streets in the city center with many beautiful art deco buildings, each of which has a lot of amazing stories to tell about the Finnish culture! (10 min)
10. Central train station of Helsinki is a beautiful landmark in the city center guarded by four massive statues who have many stories to tell us! We will also pass by two other beautiful buildings: Finland’s national theater and Ateneum museum (Finland’s national gallary). (10 min)
11. This is the modern district of the town, surrounded by beautiful post modern buildings, so you will realize why Helsinki was chosen in 2012 as the world’s capital city of design! (10 min)
12. Oodi library is the highlight of the tour, where you will need to change the definition of a library you have on mind, because this is different than any libraries you have ever seen, and it is gonna blow your mind! (15 min)
