Itinerary
- We will have a look on two famous runestones & Display over the Viking settlement in the area. You will be guided in the messages told and about runic script in general. The display I will put in to general context of the Vikings. Travel time from Stockholm about 30 minutes (30 min)
- Arkils Tingstad: It's an old "Ting" (assembly place), were the vikings gather together, had meetings and a court. It is located beautifully by the scenic Vallentuna lake. I will explain about the viking legal system. Travel time from Jarla Banke Bridge 5 minutes. (30 min)
- Vallentuna church: An old parish church from the late 12th century. I will explain of the transformation from pagan time into Christianity, then give the visitors a brief history of church of Sweden's history. Travel time from Arkil Tingstad 7 minutes. (30 min)
- We will a "fika" at Granby, fika is a traditional Swedish coffee break served with pastry. There we also will have a look at the ruins of an old viking settlement including the largest runic script in the world. Travel time from Vallentuna church 15 minutes. (45 min)
- Sigtuna was the first capital of Sweden and it is well conserved. You will have time for a quick lunch and some free time for shopping/looking around by your self. We meet up after an hour and I will a background of Sigtuna and guide you throw the ruins of Saint Olof church, named after the famous viking Olof Haraldsson, who later became a saint. (1h 15min)
- Here we will have a look on the burial mounds of Old Uppsala and the old church. This was spiritual centre for the pagan Vikings and later for the Christians. The old kings were buried here in their individual mounds. (40 min)
- Uppsala cathedral is the main cathedral of Sweden and the seat for our archbishop. I will give you a guided tour in the church as well as a brief city tour (from the bus) as we are leaving Uppsala back to Stockholm. Normally it takes about 1 hour back to the first drop off in Stockholm (6:00-6:30 pm) (45 min)
- Scenic tour between the stops in a comfortable van/minibus, which takes max 17 passenger. Audio system is provided for each passenger. The driving guide is authorized by stockholm tourist board.
