Itinerary

1. Katsurahama is one of Kochi’s most famous scenic spots, known for its sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and its strong waves that make swimming unsafe but create a dramatic coastline. It is also home to the iconic statue of Sakamoto Ryoma, a legendary samurai and reformer of the late Edo period, making it a popular place to enjoy both natural beauty and history. (1h 15min)
2. Standing proudly at Katsurahama Beach, this bronze statue honors Sakamoto Ryoma, a visionary samurai and key figure in Japan’s Meiji Restoration. Facing the Pacific Ocean, the statue symbolizes his forward-looking spirit and remains one of Kochi’s most iconic landmarks, attracting many visitors who come to pay tribute and take photos.
3. Kochi Castle is one of only 12 original castles in Japan that still retains its main keep (tenshu) from the Edo period. Built in the early 17th century, it served as the seat of the Yamauchi lords of the Tosa domain. Today, visitors can stroll freely around the castle grounds, gates, and stone walls, enjoying views of the historic structure from outside at no cost. For those who wish to enter the castle tower and Honmaru Palace, an admission fee is required, where you can explore the interiors and enjoy panoramic views of Kochi City from the top. It is the 31st temple on the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage and is famous for its beautiful five-story pagoda and tranquil atmosphere. Visitors can stroll the temple grounds for free, while access to the garden and treasure hall requires a small admission fee (about 400 JPY for adults).
