Itinerary

  1. The largest and most intact of the clan jetties, Chew Jetty consists of 75 elevated houses, several Chinese temples, a community hall and lots of tourist facilities, all linked by elevated wooden walkways. It's a fun place to wander around admiring docked fishing boats while the scent of frying fish wafts across the walkways. There are numerous places to browse souvenirs and nibble snack food. (30 min)
  2. One of the clan houses still standing in George Town, the Khoo Kongsi clan house takes on a remarkable resemblance to a mini clan village. It features tall thin columns supporting a gently sloping, red tiled roof, topped with carvings of dragons, phoenixes, mythical animals and various scenes from popular Chinese legends. The clan house also has a grand hall adorned with resplendent and intricate carvings and richly ornamented pillars which are said to have been crafted by master craftsmen from China.   3. Drive through the colorful Little India. Along market street, there are many fashion Indian stores. They sell mostly saree, silk and cotton, almost anything that has the essence of India. Apart from the interesting shops with vibrant colors, there are multiple shops selling delicious Indian culinary.
  4. Drive through the bustling Chinatown. Various shop houses, clan houses, restaurants and temples are strewn along the Chinatown streets, offering a wide variety of Chinese goods, cuisine and religious trinkets.
  5. Wat Chaiyamangalaram is a Thai temple in George Town and famous for its large gold plated Reclining Buddha, which at 33 meters and is one of the largest in the world. The temple dates back to 1845 and is built on land given to the Thai people by Queen Victoria of Great Britain during their rule of the island. (30 min)
  6. Quick stop at Coffee Tree for sampling of local white coffee. Coffee Tree is one of the pioneer as well as the leading coffee beans and drinks manufacturers in the north Malaysia. (20 min)
