Itinerary

1. The only surviving aqueduct in Montenegro, whose seventeen arches carried water three kilometres from Mount Rumija for three centuries until it was bombed during the 1877 siege.
2. The fortified hilltop heart of Stari Bar, settled since the 8th century BCE, where the 12th-century Chronicle of the Doclean Priest - the earliest South Slavic literary work - was written.
3. A former Ottoman gunpowder store, the Barutana, now a lapidarium displaying salvaged early-14th-century stone inscriptions from the lost church of St Nikola.
4. Remains of a Venetian Gothic and Renaissance palace from Venice's rule (1443-1571), recalled by the Lion of Venice relief above the main city gate.
5. A rare Ottoman clock tower built in 1753, one of only five surviving in Montenegro, restored and made operational again in 2023.
6. An Ottoman bathhouse with small light-and-ventilation openings in its dome, restored and now preserved for display only.
7. A 15th-century noble residence with sealed 'porta morta' death doors, part of the largest medieval archaeological site in the Balkans.
8. The former residence of the Archbishop of Bar, 'Primate of Serbia', a Gothic-Renaissance palace that once held twenty rooms and a grand hall.
