During Great Northern War, he became renowned for his courage, quick thinking, and daring attacks against the Swedish navy. His greatest victory came at the Battle of Dynekilen in 1716, where he destroyed vital Swedish supplies and helped stop King Charles XII's invasion of Norway. For his achievements, Peter Wessel was ennobled and given the name "Tordenskiold," meaning "Thunder Shield." Known for bold tactics and clever deception, he became one of Scandinavia's greatest naval heroes. His life ended tragically in 1720 when he was killed in a duel at the age of just 30.
