Itinerary

1. Drive through Thorndon, Wellington's colonial settler and early Māori historic area up to the Wellington Cable Car. Take in the beauty of Wellington harbour from the Cable Car Lookout and visit the award winning Cable Car Museum. (30 min)
2. Drive through Kelburn and the university, down the steepest street in Wellington and into the CBD and Parliament precinct. Step onto the grounds of Parliament to see “the Beehive” and hear about New Zealand’s political system. (30 min)
3. Have you got a head for heights? From the summit of Mt Victoria you get spectacular 360 degree views over the harbour, the city, Hutt Valley, the Brooklyn wind turbine and the Cook Strait. (30 min)
4. Enjoy a refreshments break at a seaside cafe , overlooking the beach and watching the boats sailing in the harbour. (30 min)
5. See where Kupe, the great Maori explorer, is said to have landed over 1000 years ago. The Peninsula is also home to a number of ecology projects including Predator Free Miramar and the Oruaiti Reserve, an area preserving native plants and breeding grounds for little blue penguins. (30 min)
6. Enter the Weta Cave for a taste of the creativity that goes on in the film empire of Peter Jackson and a chance to pick up a Lord of the Rings Souvenir. (30 min)
7. Drive through the vibrant Cuba Quarter and down onto Wellington's Golden Mile.
